European Beard and Moustache Championships

A three-person squad from Beard Team USA is on its way to Germany for the European Beard and Moustache Championships in Amberg on September 23. The European championships are a biannual event that takes place in even numbered years. This time the East Bavarian Beard Club will play host.

BTUSA's squad consists of Dennis Dickerson, Terry Pierson, and yours truly. Dennis (a Robert E. Lee look-alike who appropriately enough is also captain of the Army of Virginia, a division of BTUSA) will compete against very stiff competition in the Verdi division. Terry, the pride of Atlanta, has a good shot of placing in the full beard natural division. As usual, I will place near the bottom in the full beard freestyle division. Oh well.

Whatever. Coincidentally, the EBMC happens to coincide with Oktoberfest in Munich, the world's biggest beer bust, and I will be quite content drowning my sorrows with a liter or two of the famous brew.

As is always the case, Germany is expected to dominate the competition. Check back here for a full report.

Go Team, Go!
Wish I could join y'all. Maybe next year for me.
I placed 14th for Vollbart/Naturale in Schömberg, way back in 2001.
I never got on US television, but was interviewed by Südwestrundfunk 3 and Reuters TV - what fun!

As always, I grow my beard long, wild and proud.

Phil,

Have a blast in Germany. Drink one for me!

You shouldn't feel bad about placing last or thereabouts. Your beard is exquisite, and without it world facial hair events would be much less worldly.

I apologize for my absence at the EBMC. I must save for Brighton!

Have a tasty Octoberfest brew for us. I'm sure it will be a great event.

We'll see you guys in Brighton!

Congratulations to you for resisting conformity, corporate culture, and androgyny by embracing the beautiful, unique and utterly personal habit of growing a full beard.

Like a fingerprint, a year or more of full growth on a man's face produces a one-of-a-kind appearance that defies trend, pop culture, and media driven conformity. It is a very natural and beautiful symbol of individualism, and honors the self-expressed essence within each man.

At the National Beard Registry, we support individual creative expression, resistance to blind conformity or media driven corporate culture, and promoting the notion of a world where every individual is valued.

The National Beard Registry is based in America but the word National in its name applies to any nation. International boundaries are only in our minds. Conformity is an international malaise. Beards are beautiful on every continent.

Thank you all men of conscience, together we will change the face of the future.

All One Humanity!

May Peace Prevail On Earth!
